Problems creeping into my usually stable connection?

Kids have been complaining of gaming connection lately - restarted a broadband monitor and noticed some packet loss occurring quite frequently and on checking my modem stats there seems to be a fair lot of Post RS errors and one upstream channel has dropped to 32qam while the others are still at 64qam?

Can someone take a look please.

Re: Problems creeping into my usually stable connection?

Its not great with those PostRS errors. Can you reboot the hub and heck that the errors have all reset to 0 and then check them every hour or twoe to see if they start reappearing oover a short timescale - they shouldnt.

Also if you havent got one, can you set up a free “Broadband Quality Monitor” to continually monitor the state of your connection and record any true network dropouts - it will thus allow you to differentiate between those and simple wifi dropouts. It does it 24/7/365 and it keeps a visual record of any/all of your network disconnections, useful data to have to match to the Network logs (in your Hub settings) and also in discussions with VM - note it will take a few hours to start seeing a sensible picture - post up the “link” when you have the first 24h period.

Re: Problems creeping into my usually stable connection?

Mmmm looks fine.. except between 4-9pm - packet loss evidence. Is that a one off or a regular event?

May be related to congestion in your location. See if the postRS errors are reappearing.

Re: Problems creeping into my usually stable connection?

Thanks - I stopped using the Broadband Monitor after some issues were fixed almost a year ago so can't comment on frequency of packet loss - will definitely keep an eye on it though and reset the Hub in a bit to check those Post errors.  Thanks.

Re: Problems creeping into my usually stable connection?

Might be a connection issue of course - but you haven't actually said - are the kids gaming devices connected on ethernet cables or wifi when they get the problems?

Do other non-gaming devices have issues at the same time as the gamers?

And what are their issues exactly - are they being cut off or is it lagging, or what ?

Re: Problems creeping into my usually stable connection?

Lagging and fairly frequent disconnects - they are both connected with Homeplugs and not Wifi. Then again, their problems could be game server related, it's just when I saw those Hub errors and the Upstream Qam had dropped, i though I would check here.

Re: Problems creeping into my usually stable connection?

One of the 4 upstream channels is at 32 qam when it should be 64 qam, which could be related to your issues.
