Problem: My Upload Speed M500 VOLT Cap reduced from 52 to 36

Mattseyboy
Dialled in

I upgraded my package to VOLT M500 back on July 7th as Upload Speed is important to me as we have multiple connections one of which my daughter uses for Streaming games etc to viewers in Highest Quality.

The M500 service provided stable Upload speeds all of which when tested every couple of days were between 47-52 Mbps without fail in between 08/07/23-08/08/23.

From 08/08/23 following VM completing "essential maintenance work in my area" (I was notified by text message of these works hence how I know) the Upload Speed has dropped down to a cap of 36.6 Mbps both wired and on wi-fi each and every time I run a Speed Test (Ookla). It effectively now seems to be capped at the advertised Upload Speed for the M350 package since these works were undertaken whilst my Download speeds are still within the acceptable range associated for M500.

There is no Upload Speed guarantee offered by VM which CS confirmed to me and I accept BUT why would my Upload Speed now be capped at the wrong band after having been correct for 30 days up until the exact same day the works were completed?

I can only assume that the VM Network settings are now wrongly set up for my household/area as a result of these maintenance works however CS are unable to offer any real assistance other than confirm they ran a check and I'm getting 37 Mbps, which I already know, and to remind me there are no Upload Speed minimum guarantees.

I've done several re-boots and pin hole resets of the router but still only 36Mbps on every test, the reading rockets up to that speed and then stays there until the test is complete both wired and via wi-fi so I baffled by this one?

I have just noticed whilst looking on my Think Broadband profile that my Host IP Address changed at around 9.45am on 08/08/2023 also so wonder if that has had anything to do with the change in my upload speed cap, not exactly what I envisaged when I was told that essential maintenance works were being undertaken in my area to improve my service.

Check the configuration page in your router status

I'm honestly not sure what any of this means but I've got this info to offer:

Thanks for confirming my thoughts, could someone at VM please re-instigate the original Cap that I clearly had applied and was receiving for the first month of my new contract between 08/07/23 to 08/08/23 when I was receiving 47-52 Mbps until the essential maintenance works in my area to improve my service seemingly altered my settings and lowered my cap having the opposite effect?

Hey Mattseyboy,

Welcome back to the community and thanks for taking the time to post.
I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your connection, we do not cap any connection speeds. I have looked into your account and cannot see any issues at the moment.

Has anything changed with your connection since you last posted?

Kind Regards,

Steven_L

Hi Steven_L

I've just tested it again and it's still 36.8 Mbps Upload, the issue is that from 08/07/23-08/08/23 I was receiving Upload speeds of 47-52 Mbs everytime I tested then ever since essential maintenance works were undertaken in my area to improve my service on 08/08/23 I am only able to obtain 36.6-36.8 Mbps every single time on both wired (direct to the Hub3)  and over wi-fi connections.  In my opinion something has detrimentally changed as a result of the engineering works, clearly it can't be a coincidence that every test I've run since being informed the works were complete i'm now limited to the Upload speeds associated with the M350 service rather than the M500 which I deliberately upgraded too on 08/07/23 in order to get the higher Upload speed .  It's not like I've never been able to achieve the Upload speeds advertised but just that since the maintenance works it's now impossible to get an upload speed in excess of 37 Mbps.

It was suggested above from my Max Traffic Rate (see below) that that was the cause but sadly i'm no expert, would you be able to look at what was changed during the maintenance and see if whatever has gone wrong can be rectified in order to re-enable my original Upload Speed or has the local equipment been downgraded and its no longer capable of supplying the speeds it did prior to 08/08/23, ie: is it something to do with the Docsis Mode?

Bit of a brain scratcher really as to what has gone wrong since 08/08/23?
