Poor broadband speed help

I pay top rate for the 350 speed broadband.
Myself and partner are working from home due to COVID  which requires a lot of videoconferencing.
We also have teenage kids that like to game a lot.
however the broadband stability is very poor and I believe only once has reached the claimed 350 in 18 months (I regularly use the ookla app)
typically the download speed can be in single digits meaning sometimes I have to resort to a 4G WiFi hotspot on my work phone instead of the virgin cable

what can I do to improve this very poor service  ?

e.g. is it wise to reboot the whole system every day before starting work ?

should I switch to a provider who can guarantee a minimum speed ?

Re: Poor broadband speed help

Is the speed issue over wired or wireless connections?

Re: Poor broadband speed help

Are you connecting with a wired or wireless connection?

Re: Poor broadband speed help

Wireless. The router is in the living room next to the TV.
i don’t want to run Ethernet cables all over the house.
does the 350 speed only work with wired connection ?

Re: Poor broadband speed help

Your guaranteed speeds are that which are delivered to the hub and for wired devices, not wireless.

Re: Poor broadband speed help

Yes. The quoted speed is what Virgin supplies to the Hub. They have no control of the WiFi speeds because they are affected by many local factors.

But there are things that can be done to improve WiFi speeds. First have a look at the help threads around this site.
