Poor Wifi coverage and Poor cable speeds

Since having VM Broadband installed a few months back, I had slow speeds, connectivity drops and poor wifi coverage.

I have spoken to the guys in Customer Service a number of times and each time they make changes to my wifi settings and tell me that will fix it - it never does and then can never get though to anyone to move onto the next steps, always the same thing when I call up.

I do not trust using the recommended speedtest.net as this defaults to their servers and does not give a real world test.

I desperately need a WIFI booster or 2 as my mobile data is taking an absolute hammering.

I am supposed to be getting 600Mbps and no less than 315Mbps according to VM.

Re: Poor Wifi coverage and Poor cable speeds

Speedtest.net doesn't have any Virgin Media servers anymore, it would be useful to see a test from that site, or www.nperf.com or www.fast.com just to see if they show  the same speed.  The TBB test has a habit of reporting slower speeds that aren't reflected in other speed tests (or real downloads)

Thanks for the reply.

Speedtest.net - Hits the speed I should be getting then steadily drops to...

Fast.com

Re: Poor Wifi coverage and Poor cable speeds

Also try https://speedtest.samknows.com/

It's pretty dependable most of the time 🙂

Re: Poor Wifi coverage and Poor cable speeds

What are your speeds via wired connection. If it's just wifi that's suffering you would probably be better of with your own third party router or mesh system 🙂

Re: Poor Wifi coverage and Poor cable speeds

Can you please upload your router stats and we'll see if that shows anything?

Type 192.168.0.1 or (192.168.100.1 if you have your Hub in Modem mode) into your address bar at the top of your browser

DO NOT LOG IN, just click “Check Router Status” at the bottom of the page. Sometimes the “Check Router Status” is missing, in this case just go ahead and log in and go to Advanced Settings-> Tools-> Network Status.

Please copy and paste the contents of the Downstream, Upstream, Configuration and Network Log tabs, if you get a yellow warning just click the Post button again.

You can use more than one post for each item if needed!

If you get a warning when you hit “Post” just hit “Post” again and it should work ok!

Please do not use screenshots
