Poor M500 Speeds

Recently moved house and took out the Oomph package which was available in this area.

Since moving in broadband speeds just haven't been what they're supposed to be. Have gone through the pain (area 01) of under performing/overloaded VM broadband previously so keen to understand if area 20 is suffering the same issues or if this is something else.

Speed test results all done on a wired connection and modem logs as follows

Re: Poor M500 Speeds

Firstly "Areas" in VM speak are not "geographic" they are legacy billing areas - e.g. I am also in Area 20 here in south Manchester but so are other "posters" in Surrey and Sussex. As such area faults are not that helpful indicators - better to try the Service Status number - 0800 561 0061 - which usually tells you of more local issues down to postcode level that may give you more info.

That said although power levels are all good (others will comment on the logs) you have a lot of postRS errors which could be a problem. However, they may be historic or one off so can you reboot the Hub and check that the 2 error columns have both reset to 0 and then monitor whether they start to build up again over the next few hours, and report back.

Also, Check that all of your coax connections are in nice and "finger" tight at the Hub and wall box and at any splitters/attenuators/etc with no “unterminated loose ends, and that the internal wiring is ok with no kinking or chaffing. Also check that all looks good with the outside cabling and wall box.

Finally, set up a free “Broadband Quality Monitor” to continually monitor the state of your connection and record any network dropouts. It does it 24/7/365 and it keeps a visual record of any/all of your network disconnections, useful data to have to match to the Network logs (in your Hub settings) and also in discussions with VM. Make sure you uncheck the “ignore ping from WAN side” box in the settings if you see a wall of "red" - note it will take an hour or two to start seeing a sensible picture.

Re: Poor M500 Speeds

Thanks for getting in touch with us stpuk.

I would like to take a further look into your account and see what is happening as we might also need to book an engineer for this to be fixed.

I will pop over a private message now, please respond. so that we can clear account security and look into the issue further.

Regards

Re: Poor M500 Speeds

OK tightened the coax on the back of the modem as it was a little loose, all other connections are fine.

Set up a new BQM and reset the modem. Post RS errors took almost 24 hours before they started going up on one channel and have stayed the same since.
