Oversubscribed area - shall I upgrade from 50Mbs to 100Mbs contract?

Hi,

My area is oversubscribed (as confirmed by VM call centre, BQM etc.). The resolution date keep rolling anytime I call VM hence I am trying to find solutions instead of sitting duck.

I can live with the actual 17Mbs download vs 50Mbs contractual, but the killer issue is the upload speed which is essential for VoIP calls (Teams).

My upload speed is somewhere ZERO and 0.5Mb/s; I can hear others talking and see their screen sharing but they cannot hear me.

During the first lockdown, I had 100Mbs/sec contract and never noticed VoIP calls issue. In December I reduced my contractual speed from 100 to 50 to save on my bills. Speed was fine until Jan when it all became a nightmare.

- Question: Can any tech specialist advise whether increasing my contractual speed back to 100 would give me some more upload speed?

- How VM cabinet users prioritization works? Is speed limited at user's Hubs level or is it managed at VM cabinet level?

- Can I reduce my download speed and get some more upload speed?

 - Why upload speed is more affected by oversubscription than download speed?

I am all day in work meetings with many people dialled in only

Upgrading will not help, regardless of what agents will tell you.

Re: Oversubscribed area - shall I upgrade from 50Mbs to 100Mbs contract?

there is not enough bandwidth for you on 50 why do you think opening a bigger hole will help.
Its not technically its logical.

if you have low water pressure and your tap only drips because you do not get enough water into the house. Making a bigger tap will not change the amount of water you get
