Hi thanks for your response. Can you explain this in layman terms please. Also, surely if i’m paying for fibre, should I not be recieving fibre?

Re: Not getting a fibre broadband service

you're not paying for fibre. its an FTTC network.
Its fibre to the cabinet. Very few companies have full-fibre to the home currently

Re: Not getting a fibre broadband service

I thought virgin media were known for full fibre, how can they market this as full fibre if i’m not getting it. Also, virgin media was installed to my property 10 years ago, surely the technology has moved on now that they could at least change the underground cables.

Re: Not getting a fibre broadband service

Its not full fibre.
The coax cable has not changed and its perfectly fine to carry 10,000mbps.

As for marketing as fibre its common and no rules against it. BT and Sky do the same as do most ISPs

If I was ought to get 1gb internet with Virgin, would the existing infrastructure be able to handle it?

Re: Not getting a fibre broadband service

yes

FeatureDOCSIS 3.0DOCSIS 3.1
Maximum upstream speed200 Mbps1 Gbps
Maximum downstream speed1 Gbps10 Gbps
Throughput256-QAM (42.88 Mbps per 6 MHz channel)4096-QAM (1.89 Gbps per 192 MHz channel)

DOCSIS 3.1 features significantly higher speeds than DOCSIS 3.0. DOCSIS 3.1 also uses data spectrums more efficiently, increasing the amount of data that can be sent over your network.
