M600 Oomph - Poor Wired Speeds

Regularly I am finding that the speed of my internet is considerably lower than the advertised speeds suggested by Virgin. Whilst I appreciate they may be better than some providers, considering I am paying for the higher service package of M600 Oomph is it too much to ask?

If anyone can assist I would be grateful. Alternatively - @Virgin Media - Please resolve the issue.

Thanks

Re: M600 Oomph - Poor Wired Speeds

So, there are obviously problems with your line... whilst your power levels look ok,you have a *lot* of post-rs errors on most of the channels - when did you last reboot the hub? it's worth doing it again, confirming that they are all at 0 when you boot, and see how quickly they accumulate.

logs also show channels dropping with alarming frequency (RCS partial service messages).

i'd say this needs a comment from VM.. but it's probably worth checking that all of your coax connections (both inside and outside..) are finger tight for good measure...

worth setting up a BQM - if only because you may be asked to do this later, and it takes at least 24h to get a useful data set.

Thanks Mate

I have a BQM set up from last time. Don’t know if this helps

Re: M600 Oomph - Poor Wired Speeds

You may have something completely different to my issue  but this was my experience.

When I initially had service installed it was very unstable and crazy high Pre & Post errors.. some channel Post errors would reach 1m+ within hours.

An  engineer came round who fitted new F-connectors to the cables inside the exterior box on my wall. Seems the plugs outside was poorly fitted and not making solid connection.

Never had a single Post error since and the Pre error hardly goes above 2 digits.

Thanks for that pal. The engineer came out pre lockdown and did some similar change outside and it’s been fine til now.

will keep monitoring it

well. the BQM looks pretty clean - no obvious issues of over utilisation or anything like that - actually one of the better ones compared to what usually gets posted around here 🙂

Still think you're gonna need VM to comment...  If you want a quicker response then calling customer services at 08:00 (09:00 sundays) will give you the shortest queuing time.. alternatively, you can wait around here for a few days (staff seem to be picking up posts more quickly recently - maybe 3 - 5 days..) and hopefully VM will comment and arrange an engineer visit...

Re: M600 Oomph - Poor Wired Speeds

The virgin router normally comes with a black plastic spanner..sometimes finger tight can become lose over time.

Maybe worth opening that box again and tight the connection with a spanner..but not over do it😁

You missed the point completely good QoS can handle utilisation without showing high spikes so the QoS is doing its job and theirs not enough bandwidth to go around at least for the downstream

Yeah I don’t buy that VM are explicitly prioritising icmp traffic with QoS to show cleaner BQMs, especially given the countless other examples of BQMs showing the exact opposite...
