M500 speed not as advertised

Hi All

I have been consistently testing my speed through Ethernet and Wi-Fi throughout the day, daily. I am only getting max speeds of about 250mb, typically around 200mb.

It stubbornly refuses to go beyond that.  The expectation is around 400mb plus but I don't get that. 

I am on the full whack oomph bundle.  BT have recently installed FTTP 1 gig fibre optic on my road so that is very tempting given my contract is ending soon, however, I would be OK if I get somewhere close to 500 🙂

I called Virgin and was told that it depends on others using the network on my road at the same time??

Any advice would be appreciated - I have done the usual stuff like rebooting, etc.

Could you access your router using http://192.168.0.1/ or http://192.168.100.1 for modem mode . You shouldn't need log in, select the 'Check Router Status' option and paste your 'Downstream', 'Upstream', and 'Network Log' tabs? Please copy/paste this data as text, split between multiple posts (Sometimes you have to click 'Post' twice due to an error message).

Could you please create a BQM (Broadband Quality Monitor) here, and post the live link?

Your BQM isn't working.

It appears one of your upstream channels is out of spec:

Thanks, any way of solving the out of spec issue please?

Not sure what's hapening with BQM - packets are just getting dropped

You need an engineer visit.

The BQM is not working at all. It's probably being blocked by your HUB.

Two reasons likely for the red wall.

Your i.p. address may have changed since you set it up - this happened to me a week or so ago. Check your i.p. and if it has changed - put the new one into the BQM settings.

Or as Carl says - the Hub may not be accepting pings. So navigate to the Hub web interface
and somewhere in Advanced Settings > Advanced > Ping > there should be a box to tick to "allow/respond to ICMP echo requests sent to WAN IP (or similar)
