M100 Upload Speed at 6mbps But Should Be 10mbps (SH Configuration)

Hi

Wonder if someone at Virgin Media can help me. I've had my M100 service for some time and am aware the up to speeds are 108mbps D/L and 10mbps U/L. I have noticed on my SH2 operational config for some time the U/L has been configured by VGM as 6mbps (the old Vivid100 was 6mbps U/L where I was before M100). Some time ago it was 10mbps but then for some reason it was downgraded by VGM back to 6mbps without explanation or notice & I never have questioned it until now. I am quite savvy with the SH2 and I do keep an eye on what's going on with the configs put on there by VGM hence I am 100% sure it had been 10mbps at some point for the U/L.

In case the image does not show this is the text:

Primary Downstream Service Flow
SFID: 6890
Max Traffic Rate: 115000000 bps

Primary Upstream Service Flow
SFID: 6889
Max Traffic Rate: 6320000 bps

As you can see in the image above the U/L operational config is 6mbps.

Of course over the months the SH2 has been rebooted several times whether it be for VGM upgrade activities or ourselves due to other issues but the Op Config remains the same so it must be set like that from my account.

I have no issue with speeds per se as I continuously hit the configured limits upon running cabled tests.

Thanks

Perhaps you may need a Hub 3 for the speeds?

No, this is a common misconception. As I have said in my original post it had been configured for 10mbps on the Op Config some months ago of that I am sure and I had no issues with the 10mbps U/L for some time. From what I have found so far the SH2ac is capable for 20mbps U/L. I am not sure what the max limits are but I prefer the SH2ac over the SH3 anyway (yes I have experience of the SH3, it was a terrible device). Anyway this is not a SH2 capability limit.

Have you done a reboot in the time you did have 10Mb up?

Re: M100 Upload Speed at 6mbps But Should Be 10mbps (SH Configuration)

Maybe, who knows it was some months ago I didn't log every time I rebooted it or it rebooted itself unfortunately. It just needs VGM to put the correct config file on their from what I can see.

Oh and from what I can find the SH2ac is 8x4 DOCSIS 3.0 capable.

"DOCSIS 3.0 requires modems to support at least four downstream and four upstream channels. In practice, a typical DOCSIS 3.0 modem bonds eight downstream channels and four upstream ones, providing data rates of about 300Mbps down and 100Mbps up."

Also: https://www.speedguide.net/faq/what-is-docsis-3-channel-bonding-489

Just some useful info on why the SH2ac has no issue with 10mbps U/L

Your making a massive assumption virgin has bothered to make a 100/10 Config file for a sh2ac.

Well they made a 100/10 config for the super hub 1!

Re: M100 Upload Speed at 6mbps But Should Be 10mbps (SH Configuration)

First off I know for a fact they have as I've had it on my SH2ac before, don't know why ppl don't read the posts properly. Second there are numerous posts on the forum that users have even had 200/20 configs on there SH2ac's. So its not an assumption it is a known fact. Thank you.

Re: M100 Upload Speed at 6mbps But Should Be 10mbps (SH Configuration)

And I have same config on sh3 and it was running 10mbps before. Also made a separate post about it as many others and only got reply from tech who checked signals and confirmed all good there and said someone will contact me on Monday , though never said date so I guess it can be any Monday.
