Day by day my latency gets worse and worse.
Wired connection in modem mode, connected to tp link archer c4000 (all cat 6 cables).
Only 4 devices connected. 2 wired + 2 wifi.
350mb, HUB3 in Reading area.

Maybe the coax does need redoing but that looks to me like overutilisation during peak times. If it was a fault on the line you would expect that to be fairly consistent.
Meanwhile since moving:

Sweet mother of god that BQM is beautiful, and a far cry from the crap I'm putting up with.
Unfortunately my only options on my road are crappy virgin, or an asdl max speed of 8-16mb. 😞
If I could I would switch in a heartbeat, to hell with the cancellation fees.

I understand mate, I don't have anywhere near the number of problems with VM and suspect you'd kill for my VM connection, but I couldn't wait to move to actual fibre. I've still got 5 months of my contract left which I'll keep running because I might as well have a backup link instead of saving a couple of pennies.
All I can say is I'd recommend signing up to the notifications from Openreach and City Fibre. I got the email from OR 2 weeks ago completely out the blue so you never know.
Even stuff like web pages load much faster due to the reduction in latency. It wasn't slow don't get me wrong, but now pages tend to load in about the time I can blink.
I do feel for the guys at VM who want to build a good network, and the reps who have to deal with customers here. Unfortunately bad management is why people like yourselves have the pain.

City Fibre have been cabling Portsmouth over the last few months. 1Gb fibre broadband direct to home.
No way am I renewing my VM contract after the runaround customer services have just given me.
As soon as the new network is up and running, I’m off.

Competition is going to keep VM on their toes. If they think they can open up the VM-O2 network to wholesale in the current state they're crazy.

It's mostly sorted now. What's left needs boots on the ground.
Upgrades were deferred until it was too late to make financial numbers look better. Had they been done in a timely fashion it would have been relatively simple to provide the extra capacity.
This should be business as usual work but is also easy to avoid. Exactly what happened with download capacity a few years back and indeed happens every few years in one or both directions.
A couple of upgrade strategies open now that weren't before. See if the money is invested and they are brought online.
VM need a diet richer in fibre and boots on ground, hands in cabinets now.

So the last engineer left me his number so I could tell him if I still problems and he would get it done.
He has not responded to my messages.
Virgin, can can I have my cabling replaced as per the engineers recommendations?
on 10-04-2021 17:30
Redoing the cable won't help, because @ToffeeSurprise is correct that it looks like over-utilisation, even if the extent of the problem is not sufficient for VM's network team to formally recognise it as such. And as said, cable faults wouldn't suddenly go away when network traffic drops.
There's also the fact that good quality cable (and VM stuff is decent) lasts a VERY long time unless it has been abused. There's plenty still in use without problems from the earliest days of UK cable, some thirty odd years ago. My own connection is all 25+ years old, including a long run on an exposed outside wall, that's south facing and catches full sun, as well as whatever comes in the way of rain, snow or hail.
If it makes you fell better, by all means demand a re-pull, just don't expect it to sort out that latency problem. You'll have to live with that, unless your budget allows you to lay in an Openreach ADSL line purely for gaming and other low latency uses.

Mate, what else can I do?
I'm all out of ideas and virgin have none.
My coax WAS broken near the end that connects to the hub, so he cut a bit off.
The last tech said my levels were fluctuating and my cable is 15+ years old. It's a long run & it also has joiners in places that have been chopped and changed over the years.
If you have any other suggestions I'm genuinely all ears.
I can't switch providers right now, so I'm stuck with it.
I hate this beyond words.

Oh by the way the last engineer that came changed one of the couplers.
I've got this hanging off the wall now.
😞
