Latency Issues During Day

Afternoon,

For the past week there has been increased issues during the day (I can only assume its due to the increased people using the internet in their homes).
I tried to reset all devices on the network and nothing is working. Doing a traceroute it looks like the issue is outside the house. I have setup a thinkbroadband monitoring page and let it run for a couple of days to get some statistics.

I have done all the standard things listed to try and fix it but nothing seems to be working. I would rather have my download/upload rates throttled just to keep the latency stable as its making using the internet a lot harder. When the spikes occur it even makes using voice programs non usable.

Can you run a command line tool called MTR? (If on windows try WinMTR).

I suspect if you run it long enough you'll see your local node dropping packets, like mine is.

Mine has been doing it way before the current situation, so clearly I have a local node problem!

Getting hold of VM is basically impossible and I shall be leaving once my contract is up to go to FTTP.

Thanks for posting and sorry you're having issues with your connection at the moment. I can appreciate that you'd like a more stable connection right now.

 

I've had a look at the back end of your services and I'm not seeing any issues with the connection entering the property. 

Is it just during the day this is happening? Is everything okay in the evening?

 

Do you notice an improvement if you reboot the hub? If only for a short amount of time?

Hi Melissa,

The connection starts to see issues about 8am in the morning and is generally unsable on and off till about midnight.  It seems to line up with when most people would be online.

Rebooting the router doesn't seem to solve anything sadly.  I am wired into the router as well and not going through wireless.  When the spikes occur even loading a webpage takes time to load so it seems like a partial loss of service for a few seconds.

The connection is slightly better today but looking at the graph its still having issues.  If you can look back history then the weekend was really bad.

Hi Bristol2020,

I ran that MTR as I was having issues last night and it looks like you are right.

The two cases I was able to observe from the tool was random lag spikes up and above 300ms and other cases which the latency went higher and got packet loss from the local nodes.

I'm not sure what else to do, its clear its not my side and its out of my hands.  I am speaking to friends on other providers and they are not experiencing these issues in the local area.

Been happening the same for the past week, I am not sure what else to try.  I know other people in my area who are on other providers are not experiencing these issues.
