Re: Lags and spikes while playing games

Have you checked the 'Check Service Status' at the top of the page ?

If nothing is showing try phoning 0800 561 0061, this will tell you of more local issues that may be affecting your district. Be aware that it isn't a manned line.

Go round all the accessible internal and external co-ax connections and ensure that they are finger tight.

If everything above is OK we need do some more troubleshooting; to start with …

Can you set up a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com - this will give you an insight into what is happening with the signal at the other side of the Hub, it will take a few hours to get any kind of trend showing although you should post the link straight away.

Post a link to your BQM on here.

Instructions for posting BQM Link

Under your BQM graph are two links in red.

Click the lower link (Share Live Graph) then click generate.

Copy the text in the Direct Link box, beware, there may be more text than you can see.

On here click the Link icon (2 links chain to the left of the camera icon)

In the URL box paste the link you copied and in the ‘text to display’ box write My BQM then click OK - you can post the link straight away.

Re: Lags and spikes while playing games

And just to confirm that the Hub's status data you posted is all good - everything is within range, and the network log shows no evidence of problems.  That doesn't mean you aren't having the problems, it just means they can't be down to the connection of the hub to VM's network, but they could be a VM network issue.  And that's what the BQM should establish.

In terms of "lags and spikes" any ping or latency numbers to report?

Re: Lags and spikes while playing games

BQM is a little bit spikey, but we've seen much worse.  It certainly isn't pointing up any obvious faults.

Which leaves us with no obvious problems from stats or BQM - as before, doesn't mean they aren't there, just that on the usual fault finding tools we're able to spot nothing.  I would suggest that you wait until you're seeing a problem (eg when gaming), drop out the game and copy and repost the hub's status data, and we can have a further look.

If the latency is causing intolerable problems, then you can try phoning it in (although I expect that will be a painful experience with no productive outcome), or you can consider changing ISP.  You'll lose VM's higher speeds (unless there's an FTTP option), but the latency performance of an Openreach connection is usually better than cable anyway.

Re: Lags and spikes while playing games

Hi Keslaw,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our community.

Really sorry you're having some issues with the service recently, this isn't good.

I'd also like to apologise for the delay in getting back in touch, we have been busier than usual.

Have things improved at all since your post?

I have tried to check via the back end of things but I've not been able to locate your account. If it's still a problem then please pop me a personal message with your full address so that I can do some further checks from there.
