Is it worth getting a third party router?

I have a 500M package, can do its job when it feels like it during the mornings and afternoons, evenings is when it feels like it wishes to die on me. First off Download speed is a 50/50 it's at 500 but dips to 200 and so on, usually download speed is fine since whatever I download isn't too large, however, upload speed is my main concern especially when I'm live streaming, again mornings and afternoons is when it's 20mpbs, evenings...1mpbs...I can't stream in that condition.

Anyways I've had this issue since April, VM hasn't really fixed the issue, I assume there are too many people on the street using Virgin Media and I suppose they haven't even updated the servers. So should I go and get a Third Party router like a TP-Link or something?

A third party Router will not fix ethernet problems only Wi-Fi.

Re: Is it worth getting a third party router?

If your streaming to twitch or utube then yes I would recommend getting a better router for quality either for Ethernet or Wifi.

How much are you willing to pay?

ASUS RT-AC86U - £156.98
https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-RT-AC86U-AiProtection-Accelerator-Aggregation/dp/B075WFL15D

ASUS RT-AX86U - £229.99
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08CBCR6BB

Also you might want to post you hub stats to rule out a possible connection issue.

Can you post some stats. Example (for a hub 3): go to 192.168.0.1 (router mode) or 192.168.100.1 (modem mode), do not log in, click on the link "Check Router Status".
Copy and paste the Downstream, Upstream and Network Logs. Mask any public IP address.

Re: Is it worth getting a third party router?

Definitely worth posting your router stats to see if there’s a problem, but from your description it just sounds like high contention in your area.

if it is contention then a third party router will make no difference.

Re: Is it worth getting a third party router?

modem stats seem fine.

over utilization may be the issue. Ide give them a ring and question the area.

You can dig a little deeper by setting up a BQM on your hub.
You can post the live graph here (it can take up to 24 hours to populate data)
