Internet speed

I am in area 21 and over the past couple of days, my internet speed has reduced from around 100Mbps to 20Mbps.  I’ve tried resetting the router.  Any thoughts?

Re: Internet speed

area codes are not geographic. area 21 can cover most of the UK 😉

Re: Internet speed

how are you testing the speed. Wired or wireless?
Does the https://my.virginmedia.com/faults/service-status list any faults?

Re: Internet speed

I have just checked the wired connection and it's OK.  However, the wireless connections to three devices are at significantly reduced speeds, by varying amounts.

Re: Internet speed

if the wired connection is OK then the VM connection is working as expected.

The VM hubs are known to be weak on wifi. You can try a few things but the best thing you can do is get your own better router.

Check you are using a 5ghz 802.11ac device
Split the 2.4ghx and 5ghz band SSID and make sure you connect to the 5ghz one
disable smart wifi on the hub

Re: Internet speed

Thanks I’ll try your suggestions.  I’m reluctant to buy a new (better) router but it might come to that.

Re: Internet speed

For some reason 5G was disabled.  I've enabled it and all's good now.  Thanks very much for your help 👍
