Intermittent slow speeds

Hello

im a new customer to virgin and since connection have experienced wildly varying download speeds. I have followed all the wifi wins and tops to optimise the Hub3, have checked for blind spots etc and have run every speed test while standing right next to the hub. On some occasions it reaches the 108mbps DL speed but the majority of the time the speeds are only at 22-33mbps.

Re: Intermittent slow speeds

Can you post the second table from your Downstream data please.

Can you set up a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com - this will give you an insight into what is happening with the signal at the other side of the Hub, it will take a few hours to get any kind of trend showing although you should post the link straight away.

Post a 'Live Link' to your BQM on here.

Instructions for posting BQM Link

Under your BQM graph are two links in red.

Click the lower link (Share Live Graph) then click generate.

Copy the text in the Direct Link box, beware, there may be more text than you can see.

On here click the Link icon (2 links chain to the left of the camera icon)

In the URL box paste the link you copied and in the ‘text to display’ box write My BQM then click OK - you can post the link straight away.

Re: Intermittent slow speeds

What speeds do you get at >> speedtest.net << with a direct connection using a Cat 5E or better cable between the Hub in Router Mode and a 1Gbs capable Pc/Mac/Chromebook and no other devices connected ?

This is a screenshot of the download speeds I’m experiencing at work today - it’s not good enough when I have to be on conference calls and there’s bad network quality. I’m approx 4 metres away from the Hub so there’s no reason the wifi signal shouldn’t be reaching my laptop. I’ve also tested for blindspots around the house and know that this area is fine.

What speeds did you get ?

VM do not, and never have guaranteed Wi-Fi speed or coverage.

Re: Intermittent slow speeds

Ping: 75 and download: 7.18mbps

It’s understandable that the wifi speeds will be a bit slower than the fixed connection speeds, but for it to be slower than the wifi speeds I experienced with my previous broadband provider doesn’t seem right. What bothers me is that one minute it’s incredibly slow, then I try/check it again later and it could be as high as 90mbps and nothing has moved/changed within this time.
Is it possible there’s an issue with the Hub3 and the wifi signal it sends out?

You have just explained 'interference and / or blockage' on your Hub Wi-Fi broadcast.

Wi-Fi is too unpredictable to be relied on for anything much more than casual browsing.

If you want a stable connection use an ethernet cable connection. If that isn't possible for whatever reason you need to invest in some more powerful Wi-Fi broadcasting equipment.
