Intermittent download speed weeks after installation

We had M500 Fibre Broadband installed at the end of December 2020 (new customer) and after the engineer hooked everything up he showed us the down and up speeds which were approx 550mbps and 36mbps. The speeds seemed to remain consistent for a couple of weeks, but then started to vary by quite a bit; we can go from 550 down to 350 down, in around an hour. Done the normal checks, nothing else connected to the router, restarted, wired connection, but we still get this very large difference in speed. The time of the day doesn't seem to matter, sometimes we'll get 550 down in the evenings and only 400 down at 14:00 in the afternoon. One really strange thing is that the speed seems to dip every time it rains.

Would someone be able to check our line to make sure everything is still as it should be / was, when we first had the installation, please?

Re: Intermittent download speed weeks after installation

Would appreciate some input here please, even if it's to confirm that this is expected behaviour.

Plus, just got the below

Re: Intermittent download speed weeks after installation

Download speed is still varying significantly with no obvious correlation to peak / offpeak times.

I'd really appreciate an opinion here; is this expected behaviour, or is there likely to be a problem somewhere along the line?

Thank you

Re: Intermittent download speed weeks after installation

Nothing you have posted in the last two weeks is giving any clues as to what is causing your issues. Indeed can you say again what they actually are on ethernet connected devices and on wifi ones

Re: Intermittent download speed weeks after installation

Appreciate the reply. The speed drops are experienced across all devices, both wired and wifi, although the speed tests I've done to verify have been on wired devices only, as to not include wifi in the equation as well. Devices include iPhones, iPads and Xbox for wifi and Macbook Pros, Mac minis, Windows 10 machines for wired.

As mentioned above, I have confirmed the speed drops via speed tests with only one wired device connected to the network.

Re: Intermittent download speed weeks after installation

Can you post up the link to the "share live graph" BQM so we can see how it is looking at the moment.
Speed fluctuations on the scale you originally cited in message 1 dont seem to be out of the ordinary to me - they are within the VM "guaranteed range" - are they not ?

Can you test this way when you are within a period of low speeds.

Put the Hub into “modem mode” (see VM website for “How To”) and connect your W10 laptop to it. Test at speedtest.net (not using their App!) to your nearest VM server - try on 2 different browsers.

If they are still low – boot the W10 device into windows safe+networking mode and try again.

Report back what that gets - should be at the Max.
