Hi,

Ive been getting inconsistant speeds for quite a while now, i have 200mb package and my speeds range from 16.9 to 217 most of the time it is well below the 200. Ive bought a mesh Tplink Deco M9 to see if it helped and it doesnt it just gives me better signal. My details are below if anybody can help:

Stats look ok although 1 Up channel is at 32qam not 64 - not sure whether that is causing speed issues. These can be caused by a bad connection - can you do the below.

Also the Deco M9 is a good piece of kit - have you got the Hub in modem mode? Try changing the ethernet cable connecting the first unit to the Hub - maybe change which port you use on the Hub.
________________________________________________________________

First switch the Hub off for 5 minutes AND unplug it from the mains. Whilst it's off, do a quick check that all of your coax cable connections are in nice and "finger" tight - at the Hub and wall box and also at any connectors etc. Ensure there are no “unterminated cable loose ends or loose wires on the connectors . Disconnect all the connections and reconnect to be sure. Also check that the internal wiring is ok with no kinking or chaffing, check that all looks good with the outside cabling and wall box. Then switch it on again and leave 5 minutes

Check back in and see if all Up channels are now at 64qam.

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 2 on WiFi) Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's & TP-Link Archer C64 WAP. On Volt 350Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

Thanks for the reply John,

Ive tried everything you sugested all connections are tight and still my download speed is 46.25Mb.

Profile of downstream power levels look erratic - a bit of a bathtub profile against frequency, when they should be moderately tightly clustered and falling slightly as frequency rises.  Can't say if that's material, but network log confirms a stinky connection.

I think a technician is needed, and unless they can find a noise issue to explain the symptoms, it may need the slope of power levels adjusting on any street cabinet amplifier.  Be aware that there's different grades of technician, some have RF running through their veins instead of blood, and that's the type you want.  Some of the others may not have a scooby what the numbers mean, even from their own equipment.

Thanks Andrew,

Ive just tried removing the splitter to see if that does anything and the speed has increased to 115.8Mbs.

Dont know is this means bad splitter or bad wires?

but still not the 200 expected.

Thanks

Rob

Hi robwhilton,

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear you've had some issues with the speed.

I've been able to locate your account using your forum information, I've been through a few checks and it does look like an engineer is required.

I'll need a few more details from you so I can arrange this so I've sent you a private message (purple envelope, top right hand corner)
