Hub4 Modem Mode Slow ASUS GTAC5300

Hi,

Updated from HUB3 on the old 350 package, which I used to get constant 370mbps in modem mode. This was to ASUS GT-AC5300.

I upgraded to a HUB4 with new 1GB speed expected.

HUB4 In router mode I get approx 350mbps but in modem mode I get approx 90mbps?

I have reset both Router and HUB4 (in modem mode) but no difference. The HUB4 is a constant 90mbps in modem mode.

Can anyone check my account to see if there is a cap still on place and hasn’t been switched over yet?

Try a new ethernet cable?

I work for Virgin Media and my posts are my own opinions

Re: Hub4 Modem Mode Slow ASUS GTAC5300

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, the same Ethernet cable on the 350 plan which was delivering 370mbps on the HUB3. The same Ethernet cable on the hub4 to the same router is not?

Any other ideas?

Thanks

sounds like your asus is only negotiating a 100mb connection to the hub? can you check the status in the management pages of your router?

See what speed you get in modem mode with just a PC connected (power off hub for 2mins to allow a MAC change).

Also try another port on the hub 4 as you can on that model.

Re: Hub4 Modem Mode Slow ASUS GTAC5300

Thanks yes it’s showing 100 on the wan!? Ok I need to go to bed and follow up - this is odd! I am assuming at this point the hub4 in modem mode is doing something odd?! Will try direct connect and some other options in morning...

Re: Hub4 Modem Mode Slow ASUS GTAC5300

Will give this a go in the morning after checking the wan port. Looks like a possible issue with the port auto negotiating. Keep you guys posted...

in which case it's worth trying @jb66's suggestion, irrespective of whether or not it's the same cable that you used in your old setup 🙂

Re: Hub4 Modem Mode Slow ASUS GTAC5300

maybe you need a better cable.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00679D3B6?pf_rd_r=BYH3W5W45MTVT9XS2CDG&pf_rd_p=e632fea2-678f-48...

It is possible you got a faulty hub where the port don't lock at 1Gb or the link negotiation between the hub and your router is a issue .
