Hitron Chita very slow

Hi,

Just wanted to get some feedback / help on an issue my son is having in his student house he shares with 7 other people. They were advised to go with the small business option ‘Hitron Chita’ to give them the sort of speeds they’d need for phones, laptops etc but they are typically getting around 80mbps download and a similar figure for upload when stood next to the router. VM have told them things like it’s an “outage issue” or “get some boosters”.

I’m curious to know what they should be expecting speed wise and what the best course of action for them is to get better performance? Would a router reset be worth a try or just keep phoning VM and hope they be a little more helpful?

Who advised them to get the Business package ?  What speed package are they on? Also what are the practical issues they are experiencing - drop outs - slowness - "spinning ball of death" etc....

There is little experience of "Business" & Hitron Hubs on these fora - so help may be "scanty".  However generic advice would be to connect as many devices as possible directly to the Hub on Cat6a ethernet cables and those will connect at the full package speeds.  Wifi connections are always flaky and in the lap of the gods - there are so many variables.

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 2 on WiFi) Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's & TP-Link Archer C64 WAP. On Volt 350Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

As I understand it they went through an organisation called ‘Split The Bills’ that helps ensure all parties in a shared household pay the right amount for services. They organised the broadband with VM as far as I can tell.
Seems to me that may have been better off dealing direct.
Thanks for the feedback, what I was most curious about was the similar speeds for upload to download, would have expected download to be much higher but in fairness I’m no expert!!

Yes the Download speed should usually be much higher (x10) than upload.  What package are they on and what are the guaranteed up/down speeds? 80 Up is actually pretty good.

I am guessing they are checking speeds on wifi connections which might explain the low figure.  Ask one of them to test on a device connected to the Hub on a good Cat6a ethernet cable - and see what that getds

How much are they paying above the cost of the service to avoid having to do a bank transfer to the bill payer each month?

Thanks John, feedback much appreciated. When sold the package they were told figures of 1000mbps

Will suggest they do a speed test via a good cable.

Yep, that is a very valid point - Left them to sort their own stuff out (they are adults 😀) in hindsight maybe I should have got involved!
