High packet loss this evening - Lanarkshire

Packet loss of around 15-25% had an outage yesterday which showed on service status. Is this an issue with my connection/feed, or a issue in the wider network ?

All your Downstream Power Levels are too high and your Upstream Modulations are at 32 QAM, we expect them to be at 64QAM.

Go round all the accessible internal and external co-ax connections and ensure that they are finger tight.

 

This will need an engineer to put right.

You can either call in (08:00 is the best time) or wait on here for a few days (6 to 7 days average) until one of the VM Forum Staff comes along.

If you wait on here Do Not bump the thread it will put it further down the VM 'to do list'.

Thanks for responding. I've power cycled the modem and checked both ends of the coax (push fit not screw type). The upstream does seem to flip between 32 and 64 QAM

downstream power -6 to +10 dBmv

and upstream 31 dBmv to 55 dBmv STABLE

 

so my downstream is too high(which actually means signal is too weak ?), upstream is ok but obviously impacted by something

 

sorry I used to be up on DSL stats, but not gotten used to DOCSIS stats

Just had an engineer out. The fault seemed to have disappeared over last couple of days, packet loss gone, signal levels at 2-4 on downstream, 64 QAM on upstream etc

 

The engineer could see any obvious fault at the external junction (neighbours garden) or box in street. He did however have his own diagnostics page (presumably from headend) which showed errors in previous days

 

He booked/requested a re-pull of the feed from street to house, so hopefully that will improve reliability long term
