High Latency every night between 7-12pm

Hi All

for the last 7 nights i am having high latency issues on the virgin media network when pinging certain IP addresses (These tend to change depending on the night):

Pinging with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from bytes=32 time=190ms TTL=116
Reply from bytes=32 time=324ms TTL=116
Reply from bytes=32 time=268ms TTL=116
Reply from bytes=32 time=292ms TTL=116

Ping statistics for
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 190ms, Maximum = 324ms, Average = 268ms

Pinging with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from bytes=32 time=33ms TTL=116
Reply from bytes=32 time=25ms TTL=116
Reply from bytes=32 time=23ms TTL=116
Reply from bytes=32 time=23ms TTL=116

Tracing route to []
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 5 ms 5 ms 5 ms
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 13 ms 16 ms 20 ms []
4 * * * Request timed out.
5 26 ms 25 ms 24 ms []
6 227 ms 205 ms 200 ms []
7 29 ms 27 ms 27 ms

both these pings were taken one after the other and repeated multiple times with the same results over a few hours and it happens when pinging other sites aswell like & to name a few examples. I also have a friend near about 10 miles away who has exactly the same issue at the exact same times as me while my brother who lives about 3 miles away does not have this fault.

the fact that some pings work within spec and other do not suggest to me that locally the connection is fine and that the problem is deeper in the virgin media network (Telecity by the looks of the traceroute).

of course contacting the Virgin fault team is useless as they do not understand the difference between latency and bandwidth and every time i tell them i have 300ms latency on some pings they say this is good for a 500mbps connection. Even when i offer to send evidence of the fault i get told that they are not allowed to give out their company emails as it is against company policy (i know this is a lie).

Wondering if anyone is having the same issue as me as the only way i feel i can get this resolved is if there are a collective all reporting the same issues.

other than that i have kind of given up and I am looking at getting a second line in and letting my VM contract expire which is a shame cause i have had it for nearly 2 years without incident at this address but i cant stay with a provider that will be faulty every night and wont even acknowledge that they have a fault because they wont look past their line test and

Hopefully some other people are seeing this issue, thanks in advance 🙂

Re: High Latency every night between 7-12pm

Hello Damarus

Thanks for taking the time to post on the forum in regards to your broadband connection, welcome to the forum.

From looking at your connection and equipment there isn't anything that stands out as cause for these issues, everything appears to be within the spec and range's we'd expect to see. But as you have mentioned the issue may be located elsewhere in the network.

Presently there is a fault ticket under reference F008938203 with an estimated fix date of the 19th April at 9am. The network team have also checked and can't find any issues either.

I have the exact same issue, this is down to over utiliasation on the virgin network in your area. You need an open reach connection for better latency.

my issue has been ongoing for 7-8 months and no signs of it being resolved
