Help requested for recent speed drops from 200 down to 45 to 2 Mbps

Hi

sought help here before and it has proven worthwhile so thought I'd try again.

Recently (and intermittently over the last 2-3 months) my 200Mbps link drops down to 45 Mbps.

SH 2ac

Modem mode

Google Wifi router

PC Windows 10, wired to router cat6 cable via a netgear switch

(measured by Google Wifi router - so "raw" speed) sometimes down to 2 Mbps (dslreports.com browser-based on PC wired to Google Wifi on CAT 6 cable). Other devices on Wifi report similar speed drops using dslreports.com

On the PC I notice the degradation most using Citrix for accessing work - gets very jittery

Checked all my connections are tight.

Reverted to router mode to set up a BQM.

In router mode I still get severe degradation - which suggests a Virgin issue? And quite variable performance within the 45 Mbps bandwidth currently available.

Hello

You are going to need an engineer visit as some of your downstream power levels are below specs, most of them are below the threshoold of 34.

I have escalated to the VM forum team, one of the VM staff will be along in this thread to resolve it for you.

Regards Mike

Re: Help requested for recent speed drops from 200 down to 45 to 2 Mbps

Connected PC directly to SH 2ac in router mode.

Speed seems to be capped at 45 Mbps, and drops to 2 Mbps seemingly randomly - which may coincide with Citrix sessions "stalling"? Do Virgin cap speeds to load balance or whilst under maintenance?

This matches the experience when using the google router and SH in modem modem

So as far as I can see running in Router mode or modem mode makes little difference.

All of this started about 14th Oct I can see from Google logs the regular automated speed test was running at or around 200 Mbps. Previous similar speed "cap" was for a about a week in early September.

Oddly upload is relatively consistently stable at 18-20 Mbps thruout

Re: Help requested for recent speed drops from 200 down to 45 to 2 Mbps

I think I have fixed it - there was a loose in the garage where "someone" had knocked the cable loose from its housing. Pushed it back in and now the speed is back to normal.

Downstream:

RxMER (dB)36.1736.6135.9735.9736.1736.6136.3936.84

Earlier checks had just been on the router itself - doh!
