Half Of Advertised Speed (91mbps on 200mb connection)

Good morning all.

Towards the start of the year, I changed my subscription to be Broadband only and for the 200mb line speed. Since changing I cannot get over 95mbps download speed. The connection itself is stable but much slower (over 50%) than I was expecting. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why?

I'm currently on a Hub 3.0 in Modem mode and all data and speeds are taken from a direct ethernet connection via a network card.

Any help would be appreciated.

 Regards, Josh

looks like what you would see with a 100mbps network card or router.

What router and network card are you using

Re: Half Of Advertised Speed (91mbps on 200mb connection)

Hi Apcyberax,

 Thanks for the quick reply.

My current home setup is the Hub 3.0 which feeds 2 x Asus RT-AC51U Routers. My Tower is then hardwired into the router via a Realtek 8111H Gigabit LAN Controller (Motherboard mounted connectors, not PCI-e expansion.

Are you suggesting the Routers could be throttling the connection speed ?

 Regards

Re: Half Of Advertised Speed (91mbps on 200mb connection)

Sorry, I should have explained the network a tad better.

The Hub and router 1 are upstairs in the network cupboard (Fixed Cat 6 throughout the house) and it’s Router 1 I connect to via Ethernet.

Router 2 is set as a WiFi receiver and simply boosts the signal around the downstairs portion of the house.

Hub is in modem mode and connected to the Router via port 4 (which from memory is correct?)

Re: Half Of Advertised Speed (91mbps on 200mb connection)

the other things that can limit speed down to 100 is damage or cheap network cables.
Have you tested with a new cable

Re: Half Of Advertised Speed (91mbps on 200mb connection)

Now that you mention it, I may have a crossover cable being used as a networking cable... This will obviously limit the connection speed!

I'll give this a shot and let you know what the results are!

 Many thanks

Re: Half Of Advertised Speed (91mbps on 200mb connection)

Just checked,

All straight-through cables, so no problems there.

Still left scratching my head as to what it could be ...

Re: Half Of Advertised Speed (91mbps on 200mb connection)

What speed do you get wired direct to the hub without the routers?

Re: Half Of Advertised Speed (91mbps on 200mb connection)

It turns out it was the router. Although it was listed as a Gigabit router, for some reason you have to set this in its OIS.

All sorted and now pulling 200+ Mbps.

Thanks for all your help guys
