Hi I've got virgins Gig1 speed test comes out what it should be just over a 1gig...but when I'm downloading stuff I only get 100mb tops. My friend gets nearly 400mb and he's on a slower Internet connection with virgin I'm using a brand new pc for gaming any help appreciated
Say you had a file that was 1GB in size to download and you had a 1Gb/s broadband line:
To get your download speed in BYTES per second (Broadband speed is measured in bits per second) you'd need to divide by 8 (8 bits to the byte)
so If you are downloading a file and it is coming in at 100 MB(ytes) per second - then you'd need to multiply by 8 to get your speed in Mb(its) per second - in this case 800. Which, depending on many factors, site bandwidth of the route etc would be pretty good and acceptable for a 1Gb/s connection!
Hope this helps and apologies if I'm 'teaching my granny to suck eggs'
