Gig1 slow speed after upgrading

Hi, I recently upgraded from M500 to Gig1 and the speeds are slower.

I have run a test using SamKnows realspeed so that I can test from the Virgin Media Hub 4.  I only ever get a maximum of 370Mbps.

vm_speed.PNG

I've tried rebooting etc etc.  I am using a Google Wifi Mesh which is connected via ethernet to the hub.  When I run a speed test directly from the Google Wifi node that is connected over ethernet I get a maximum of 370Mbps.

I've seen in other threads that a low number of downstream channels can be an issue, this is what I have:

Cable Modem StatusItem Status CommentsChannel Overview Downstream Upstream

Cable Modem Status
Online
DOCSIS 3.1
Primary downstream channel
Locked
SC-QAM
DOCSIS 3.0 channels
22
4
DOCSIS 3.1 channels
1
0

Any advice on what to do?  There's no response in the online chat, just waiting.

Re: Gig1 slow speed after upgrading

I appear to have solved this problem.  I'm posting here incase anyone else finds it useful.

I think the downstream channels may have been the issue.

All I did was performed a factory reset in the admin interface of the hub.  Once it restarted I had decent speed to the hub:

vm_speed_2.PNG

And all 31 downstream channels:

Re: Gig1 slow speed after upgrading

I'm getting 890Mbps over the ethernet wire at the moment. Seems pretty good but I may try a few different cables to see if there's difference there...

Over WiFi that's a different matter, only getting 300 ish, but that's the WiFi...

890Mbps is pretty good considering 1Gbps ethernet including overheads hits a limit of around 940Mbps.

Try a speed test on another device at the same time and you should see your full 1145Mbps across both devices.

Re: Gig1 slow speed after upgrading

To be honest, 890Mbps download is great.

The thing that really bugs me is the upload speed. It maxes out at 50Mbps. I wish we could have better upload performance for multiple remote meetings, video chats, remote working, uploading etc etc.  I'd drop the spare 200 ish Mbps of download speed that is tricky to use and move it to the upload!
