Gig1 Not getting speeds on desktop PC

I recently moved house and came to virgin media on their Gig1 package. I am using a desktop PC connected to my router by ethernet cable. I don't seem to be getting anywhere near the 1000mbps + expected, I have checked on realspeed-samknows which shows the hub getting the expected speeds but PC not reaching above 600mbps. I've tried both the ethernet port on my motherboard and the ethernet card I have (bother rated to be able to receive gig speeds) but doesn't seem to make a difference.

I've checked connected devices in http://192.168.0.1/ and it shows my desktop PC as 1000mbps.

Any ideas how I can get higher speeds on my desktop PC?

Its also worth mentioning I don't get anywhere near a gig on wifi devices either (although this is to be expected).

Any help is greatly appreciated 🙂

Can you tesrt speeds this way and see

Connect a 1GB enabled computer/laptop, with up to date drivers, via a NEW and working Cat5e/6a ethernet cable, directly to the Hub which you have put into “modem mode”

This ensures that NO other devices are connected

Test speeds at https://speedtest.samknows.com/ - try on 2 different browsers.

If they are still low – boot your device into Windows safe+networking mode - to disable any potentially interfering software - and try again.

There are many posts on here (I have a list of ~30!) where QoS software, unknown/flaky software, old network card drivers, corrupted browsers, bad cables or other connected devices are limiting speeds on tests.

Report back what that gets. A couple of examples why... see message 9 in the first thread and… 3 in the second
