Gig1 - Hub 4 - alternative WiFi router suggestions...

As a new Gig1 customer, I am completely unimpressed by just about every aspect of the Hub 4, especially the poor WiFi speeds - even when I am within a few feet of the router using different mobile devices, I am getting about 500mb at best after lots of faffing about with WiFi channel changes etc.

Can anyone suggest a good tried and tested WiFi router that will help me achieve better Gig1 WiFi speeds around my home please?

Re: Gig1 - Hub 4 - alternative WiFi router suggestions...

what speed do your wifi devices support?

2.4Ghz maxes out at 300Mbps
5Ghz "n" maxes out at 900Mbps
5Ghz "ac" has a range of 433 Mbps - 1.7 Gbps

of course ,those are maximum theortical speeds.

Re: Gig1 - Hub 4 - alternative WiFi router suggestions...

500Mb on a WiFi connection is not bad.

What devices are you trying to connect by WiFi and what is their network specifications? Are they able to use a faster wifi?

The hub 4 is a poorly spec'd device, limited to 1Gb ports, no WiFi 6 (although we are all waiting for 6e) So for a new device not future proof we will be wanting a hub5 when speeds start to exceed 1Gb,

Personally I do not recommend WiFi "routers", they are generally low spec as a gate way device. Fine to run as cheap access points to deliver WiFi connectivity to the home network.
