Re: Gig1 Fibre Broadband service - not exactly speedy

What speeds do you get at >> Sam Knows Real Speed << with a direct connection using a Cat 5E or better ethernet cable between the Hub in Router Mode and a 1Gbs capable Pc/Mac/Chromebook and no other devices connected ?

Re: Gig1 Fibre Broadband service - not exactly speedy

Thanks for the help - Sam Knows...

BIG leap from the first check - eg showing how inconsistent the connection is - NB this is to a MBP not an iPad (and no I don't expect 1G over WiFi but I did get consistently higher with M200 service).

Presuming the image won't load right away the SK is 1073 to Hub 4 and when checked to MBP 704. Previous original Speedtest was 32.48Mbps Down and 47.76Mbps up (hence me coming here).

Re: Gig1 Fibre Broadband service - not exactly speedy

Your issue here is that it looks to be a wireless speedtest so a lot of other factors come into play here, unfortunately the Hub 4 doesn't have what Virgin class as "Intelligent WiFi" as of yet so you may need to split the networks to show 2.4G and 5G then depending on distance manually connecting to them to give some coverage, this may and may not fix speed issues though.

** I work for VirginMedia but all opinions posted here are my own.

Re: Gig1 Fibre Broadband service - not exactly speedy

Have split the SSDs to 2 and 5ghz - was more bemused by upload being so solid and fast versus down.

Thanks for the input and advice.

Here's a BQM update...

Running on 1Gbps VM service with SH4 in Modem Mode, with a ASUS RT-AC5300 router. With this setup I get Fantastic WIRED and WIRELESS Signals in my home. I dont work for VM. But I work in IT, and I know my tech.
My advice is at your own risk. If you are happy with my answers please press Kudo ?

Re: Gig1 Fibre Broadband service - not exactly speedy

2.4ghz and 5ghz channels are split and logged onto as required / to suit.

getting the same issues again and again.

Terrible speed, reboot, improved (typically under 20Mbps then 500Mbps) without doing anything different.

Always down is awful (17Mbps now) and up stays the same always (40Mbps).

I appreciate the whole Wifi versus hardwired but I am two foot away with nothing blocking the signal whatsoever.

Re: Gig1 Fibre Broadband service - not exactly speedy

Am content the hub is getting what I am paying for - now have a newly defined issue - why is my wifi 600Mbps and then 17Mbps without me moving, adding extra connections, placing anything between me and the hub, etc. And why does rebooting it push it back up to that 500Mbps without doing ANYTHINg else?

What is causing this dramatic drop out on the wifi speed/ Is the SH4 that bad?

Re: Gig1 Fibre Broadband service - not exactly speedy

So - here's what I had.....

Screenshot 2021-01-19 at 14.29.25.jpg

Rebooted the hub and changed not a single other thing...

Screenshot 2021-01-19 at 14.42.17.jpg

NB channel (44) identical and didn't change, no other wifi signals joined or dropped out between the two speeds shown above.

Rebooting daily to solve this is not how I'd prefer to go - any ideas?
