Fine from January until now

Had 500Mb package installed in January and was very happy with it. Max speed on wired and 250-350 wireless dependant on location and device. Now, I have had dropouts after drops outs over wifi (broadband seems solid from broadband monitor). My laptop is only getting 90mgb Tops on wired and anything from 2 - 40mb wireless. My galaxy note 10+ stood by the router is only hitting 200 at a push. I have checked the levels (attached, but all seem ok to me) but the diagnostics comes back with ipv4 address invalid and plenty of messages to move devices closer to the router. Any advice please ?

Re: Fine from January until now

90Mbps over wired usually means a 10/100 NIC or a CAT5 cable.

Can you confirm?

Re: Fine from January until now

Hi Gary and thank you for your quick response. Indeed, it looks like I was using Cat-5... Just dug out a Cat-6 which as expected, as helped. However, I am still only getting 200Mb wired on Cat-6.

What device are you wired to?

Re: Fine from January until now

Microsoft Surface book, but I have had faster speeds both wired and wireless in the past and even my note 10+ seems to have suffered.

Re: Fine from January until now

I did some standard reboots last week and even rebuilt my surface on Friday (it was due anyway) but no joy. Finally did the 60 second reset this morning, no change. I did notice what I thought was the white led go a kind of dirty yellow a few weeks back, but after research, put it down to the LED possibly dying. Although the router was only installed in January.

Re: Fine from January until now

Wireless speeds and connectivity aren’t guaranteed so using them as a reference for speeds is pointless.

Only wired speeds (and the speed being delivered to your hub) counts.

Re: Fine from January until now

Thanks Gary and I'll take the wireless speed hits based on that however, 200Mb on a wired connection for 500Mb service is surely not right ?
