Extremely variable upload and download speeds

I'm on the M200 package, and suffering from extremely variable download and upload speeds.

We recently had a good patch for a week or so, with download speeds of 150 to 200 and upload speeds of 15 to 20.

But this never lasts - for several weeks before this, and in the last 48 hours, download speeds are in the range of 10 to 25, while upload speeds have been as low as 0.02. Currently upload speeds are 0.42.

This is all tested on a wired connection to a Super Hub 2 in router mode. Rebooting doesn't seem to make any difference, and the last two times I've rebooted it was unable to successfully re-connect to the interent until the second attempt.

Router status logs are posted below. If anyone can offer any suggestions I'd be really grateful. Many thanks!

Re: Extremely variable upload and download speeds

You have a signal fault, your upstream is way too high, can you check all your fittings tight and if you have an attenuator on your hub you should remove that

Re: Extremely variable upload and download speeds

The upstream only has one locked channel, should be two or four and the power level on that one channel is far too high.  This will probably need a technician to visit and sort out the power levels.

Report the issue by calling 150 from a VM landline or 0345 454 1111 from any other phone.

If you can't get through on the phone then VM are recommending you send a text to 07533 051809 describing the issue and you should get a response, but it may take a day or two at present. This is a text only service, it does not support voice calls.

Or you can wait for one of the forum team to get to this thread, which can also take a few days.  If their tests deem it necessary then they can book a visit for you.

Re: Extremely variable upload and download speeds

Many thanks for the reply JB66, I'll double check all the fittings (it's a long cable run from the street to the rear of the house, installed about 15 years ago, with lots of connectors!)

Re: Extremely variable upload and download speeds

A quick update - VM engineer came yesterday and removed a redundant splitter, and changed a few coax connectors. All four upstream channels are now unlocked and power levels are back in spec. Everything seems to be working fine now!

Thanks to everyone for help and advice.
