Ethernet connection making wifi slower for rest of users?

We had problems with the wifi connection in some parts of our house (my bedroom included), so we added a booster to one of our floors. Since adding the booster the wifi has been working fine in all rooms of the house. For the past couple of months though the wifi in my room has been very slow and I haven't even been able to stream short youtube videos (not ideal during lockdown!). The other day I found out that one of our housemates have been using an ethernet connection between his computer and the booster. Could this be the reason the wifi is slower for the rest of us?

Thanks

Possibly.

It might be time to invest in better equipment

What do you mean better equipment? We all just use it to occasionally stream Netflix and it has been working well since we signed up for VM in December... I just want to know if the ethernet connection could be the reason as that would make a lot of sense.

If it’s taking the bandwidth from it then yes it’s a possibility

All internet is shared and your WiFi bandwidth is already small. Get your housemate to run an Ethernet cable directly from the hub to his computer.

Thanks for your reply. He can't connect it straight to the hub as his room is on a different floor. I don't see why he needs to have an ethernet cable plugged in at all? Especially if there is any risk at all that it makes the wifi slower for the rest of us.

Re: Ethernet connection making wifi slower for rest of users?

Your WiFi is low as it's delivered by boosters and he's now taking some of it.
