Erratic Broadband Speeds on M500-High RS Errors ?

Hi,

I have been getting erratic broadband speeds over the past couple of weeks, with a complete dropout on friday last lasted several minutes. I phoned the guys on 150 and they said they could find no issues and service status says Broadband is ok.

The person I spoke to didnt seem to investigate much beyond rebooting

I have monitored speeds via ethernet (cat 6e) connection which range from 80Mbs to 307Mbs, rebooted the Superhub 3 etc.

I dont seem to have much luck in getting any answers, but I seem to be getting a lot of RS errors ?

The RS errors may be a concern. Can you switch the Hub off for 5 minutes AND unplug it from the mains. Whilst it's off, do a quick check that all of your coax cable connections are in nice and "finger" tight - at the Hub and wall box and also at any connectors etc. Ensure there are no “unterminated cable loose ends. Disconnect all the connections and reconnect to be sure. Also check that the internal wiring is ok with no kinking or chaffing, check that all looks good with the outside cabling and wall box. Then switch it on again and leave 5 minutes

When done, check back in the settings and ensure that the RS error counts have all reset to 0. Then check every hour or two for the next day or so to see if they start reappearing - they shouldn't. If they do (particularly the postRS ones) you have a problem (noise) that only a Tech visit will sort.

Thanks for your reply. I have checked all the cables and they are tight. After the reboot I have already got some Pre RS errors but zero post RS. I will monitor for the next couple of days and report back if I may

So I have been getting some more Post RS Errors being logged, 150 haven't a clue what I am telling them.

Do I need a Tech visit ?, if so can one be arranged via this forum ?

Its a tricky one as there is nothing really obvious on the BQM. Tghe up powers are high but still in spec. A few RS errors are not a concern but if they continue building then it does suggest that noise is getting in somewhere. That can be really difficult to track down and I wouldnt expect the CS folk to spot it.

See how it goes and watch the BQM and see if it worsens. Have you tried a new ethernet cable just in case there is a problem in it?

A VM person should get here eventually and take a look and see whether a Tech is required
