Do I need 200mbps speeds?

Hi folks,

Planning on reviewing the broadband arrangements. We have been on the Virgin Media 200mbps package now for a while and I am looking to see what VM can offer me with regards to a new contract.

My question to the forum is this. Do I need 200mbps bandwidth?

What sort of things should I be considering?

I don't think anyone in our home is doing any heavy downloading.

I guess the downside with VM is that - for example - if I downgraded to a 100mpbs package, that will be coupled with an upload speed of just 10mbps - this may impact things I guess.

Re: Do I need 200mbps speeds?

We used to have 200 when the kids were at home, and had no issues.  Dropped later to 100 without any problems.

It's a question only you can answer really.   How much downloading do you do etc.  How many concurrent 4K HD movies will be streaming at any one time etc ?  Do you Twitch stream or anything like this, as upload may impact this.

Being in Belfast, you should have an array of Openreach based suppliers as well as VM.  A lot of these FTTP services have a better upload ratio than VM.
