Disappointed Gig1 speeds

Hi,

Just upgraded to Gig1, and was expecting much faster speeds, but after contacting the online help service (after a 1 hour wait, and being transferred to 3 advisors !), I was told that the 1gb speed is the speed that is 'sent' to the hub. This is then disrupted to the connected devices, so unless you only have 1 device connected, it is unlikely you'll receive 1gb download speed !

My desktop computer, which is connected by an ethernet cable can only get around 400mbps, using www.samknows.com/realspeed (Virgin's recommended speed test sit). This is slower than I was getting on my Hub3 router M500 package.

Just letting you all know !

Could you sign into your HUB on http://192.168.0.1 , navigate to 'Advanced Settings / Tools / Network Status' and post the 'Upstream', 'Downstream', and 'Network Log' data, as text (You may need to click post twice to skip an error, and post in separate posts)?

Could you also create a BQM and post the live link?

Re: Disappointed Gig1 speeds

The stats don't look too bad to be honest, although the 'Correcteds' value (Errors that must be corrected by the HUB) on the DOCSIS 3.1 channel is very high.

The BQM could show a problem so it's worth creating one.

Re: Disappointed Gig1 speeds

Thanks Carl

The ethernet cable I'm using is quite an old one, is it worth getting a new CAT 6 one to help ?

Thanks

It's worth a try for the cost of the cable.

Re: Disappointed Gig1 speeds

A note about that corrected codeword counter. The 3.1 channel works a bit differently, so a high number is expected behavior. It should be disregarded when troubleshooting.

Re: Disappointed Gig1 speeds

Put the post on BQM, had some replies and recommendations but couldn't get any improvement in speed, but one poster said that he had over 20 devices connected the the hub4 and was getting speed over 900Mps on most devices, so sounds like it's a VM issue.

Have now raised a complaint with VM for them to action
