Constant slow internet

I have 350mb broadband yet everyday my internet speed is sluggish and I run a speed test and its sub 20Mbs. I then go through rebooting the router or resetting to factory and eventually the speed will go back up to 200Mbs plus. Inevitably within an hour or two I then end up back at the slow speed.

The service always shows as good. When I use the app to run a test on my equipment it always comes back as an exclamation mark and "we are trying to sort this for you" but seemingly nothing gets sorted.

I keep trying to call but after about 15 minutes of waiting the line gets cut, which is absolutely outrageous. 

I'm completely at the end of my tether. Does anyone have any suggestions to either deal with the issue myself or how to get virgin media to sort it out?

What is your connection like using a direct connection using a Cat 5E/6 cable between the Hub and a 1Gbs capable Pc/Mac/Chromebook and no other devices connected ?
