Broadband issue

I am having terrible issues with my wifi speed. I am currently on a package to receive 250mbps but a test by the virgin media app has told me I am currently only receiving 27mbps.

This is ridiculous and I have tried to contact virgin via multiple ways. I have tried Whatsapp but it says they are no longer taking issues to do with broadband. I have also tried to call but am having no luck at all getting through to a human. Only thing is they keep saying there is an issue in my area. This does not help at all and I would like a booster but have no idea how to get in touch with anyone in virgin to get one. It is also a disgrace to receive an email from virgin saying the cost of my package is going up £7 a month when I’m barely receiving the package speed at the price I’m paying now. 

Any help with getting through to an agent/any help with getting a booster and improving my speed would be great!

27Mb/s could be a quite typical result for a WiFi connection through an internal wall on the 2.4Ghz band.

The Virgin Media app gives the Upstream and Downstream speed for both the Hub and for the device.

We could do to know all of those figures to understand what is happening.

First see if the service to the Hub is as expected,  them move on to mobile or laptop. ( best performance is with a network cable )

to check your service...

Try in 2 places

1) Try the “check service,”Area status webpage" (link at top right of this forum)

2) Then also try the “free & automated” Service Status number - 0800 561 0061 - which usually gives the most up to date info. and tells you of more local issues down to street cab/ postcode level.

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 1 WiFi, 1 on PA) Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's. On 250Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

I am also having trouble connecting to the app. I try and run the broadband speed test but it keeps telling me I am not connected to the wifi when I am fully connected.

I already know there is an issue in my area but has told me for 4 weeks now there is an issue so why is it not being fixed? It shouldn’t mean that I have poor wifi most of the time that drops in and out.

At least there is the admission of an issue & some kind of fix is planned.

If the VM Connect app is not playing ball try the link below for a similar and perhaps more accurate result.

Once the test starts click on : Run full test  to see all the figures.

looks like my broadband speed is slower than I previously stated. Any ideas on how to get virgin media to improve this or get a booster sent out?

Test with a PC with the hub in modem mode then get a better wifi router with 1Gb ports
