Broadband back up?

Hello,

I have signed up to Virgin broadband today. Haven't got it installed but I just wondered if there is a back up in case broadband goes down? As I work from home mostly this is an area of slight concern.

thanks,

Wayne

No there is no in-built backup, and to be fair this is probably true of all main-stream ISPs. If continuity of Service is importune to you, the only way is to also sign up with another provider as well, say BT or Sky or TalkTalk, or even a 4G/5G connection, which is fine and they can co-exist with the VM service.

In the event of a VM outage, you could manually switch your PC/laptop/devices to use the alternative connection, or, get a third party router which supports multiple WAN connections and auto-failover. Won't be particularly cheap though.

If you are in a good 5/4G service location then a unlimited data SIM would be good to ve.

If you are in a Three area, Smarty have an unlimited data sim for £20/month on a 30 day renewable contract.

Put it in the phone to tether a device - or invest in a MiFi router for a more router like experience
