Hi, my Deco mesh is reporting my bandwidth is lower than my actual. This is since upgrading virgin from 125 to 256 . How do I find out my actual bandwidth? Tia

To measure what you are getting you must do this...
____________________________________________

As you expect >100Mbps then connect a 1GB enabled computer/laptop, with up to date drivers, via a NEW and working Cat5e/6a ethernet cable, directly to the Hub which you have put into “modem mode” (https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-hub-modem-mode ). This ensures that NO other devices are connected

Test speeds at https://speedtest.samknows.com/ - or https://www.speedtest.net/ - try on 2 different browsers - as Chrome sometimes gives odd results.

If they are still low – boot your device into Windows safe+networking mode - to disable any potentially interfering software - and try again.
There are many posts on here (I have a list of ~30!) where QoS software, anti-virus, unknown/flaky software, old network card drivers, corrupted browsers, bad cables or other connected devices are limiting speeds on tests.

Report back what that gets. For examples of why... see message 7 in the first thread and 9 in in the second and 3 in the third

It could also be Deco related - see this

A Deco unit QoS defaults to 100 - message 2 in….

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 2 on WiFi) Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's. On Volt 350Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

All help that I found online says to ask ISP, but no-one knows what I'm talking about when I call 🙄

Yes. that's not too unusual - not the most technically switch on people on the planet. However, if you go to the my.virginmedia.com website and log on with your primary username and password, it should tell you what speed package it 'thinks' you are subscribed to. If this doesn't match what you believe you have signed up to, then you need to call VM and kick off.

But before you do that, what does your system claim your speeds actually are?

Hey @Ianw65, thanks for reaching out to us on the forums.

Thank you for the query about the bandwidth.
May I ask if you've managed to try the advice given in the thread and whether or not you've managed to find your bandwidth?
Let us know.

Kind regards,
Ilyas.

Connect a PC with a 1Gb NIC to the hub in modem mode and do a speed test

Hi,

No I haven't. I'm afraid I'm a techno-phobe... I thought the answer would of been an easy one, as ISP should know my bandwidth.
