Asus AX82U Router connected, only getting 400mbit download on it, paying for gigabit!

So I have the Virgin Media router in modem mode, and connected to an Asus AX82U router.

Both have been rebooted, but makes little difference....

When I first installed the Asus router, we did it because we believed the VM Router wasn't giving us full speeds, once the VM router was put into modem mode and connected via the Asus router, I was getting around 700-800mbit connectivity to my PC (wired, using Cat6 cabling, verified for 1000/1000 mbs speeds) and between my PC And NAS I can get lots of fast throughput (Nas has 4 drives, to one of my NVME Drives, nice and quick file transfers!)

However, when using any kind of speedtest, I am only getting 300mbit-400mbit online, which is poor. I have tested this with my iPhone 14 Pro also, and get the same result, while still fast, when paying for a 1gbit line, I expect to at least get half that, but nope!

Anyone got any ideas, or any configuration I can do with the router to improve this? Help!

Power off hub for two mins and connect a PC and power on the hub in modem mode and test your speed

So I did what you said, and I am still only getting around 700mbit, but I've ordered a new cable from Amazon, Cat7 cable, yes, that's overkill but I figure I might as well get it futureproof! I hope this means I am getting 700mbit from the Asus Router then...

What if you boot PC in safe mode with networking to do a speed test?

Tried that, I get the same result. Upgraded to a Cat7 cable between the Virgin Hub4 and Asus Router now, also same result. 400mbit, although now I get 450mbit.

I'm sure its not the On board I/O as plugged in directly its getting 700mbit, which is still way less than 1200mbit the router shows its getting.. I had thought about putting in a network card but doubt that'll make any difference.

Can you confirm this is the same with the Asus built in speed test?

Where can I find the Asus built in speed test?

Under 'Adaptive QoS / Internet Speed'.

On mine it's under Adaptive QOS / Internet Speed.
