AL5: from bad to worse

Upload speed has gone back to the levels only seen during the first lockdown.

Should be 10MB, I only get 0.5MB.

I will be leaving soon, but during this time I am still a customer and deserve to get what I am paying for.

I think this is the proof that none of the so called "improvements" done in 2020 have achieved anything. Speed improved during the summer and autumn only because less people were using it.

Now that everybody is working from home and schools are closed, one can really see the extent of the issues the VM network has.

A very unhappy customer.

Re: AL5: from bad to worse

What speeds do you get at >>  SamKnows << with a direct connection using a Cat 5E or better ethernet cable between the Hub in Router Mode and a 1Gbs capable Pc/Mac/Chromebook and no other devices connected ?

Then immediately after …

Can you Login to the Hub Settings and navigate to the Connected Devices page - what is the reported 'connection speed’ for the ethernet cable connected device you used for the speed test ?

Re: AL5: from bad to worse

If possible can you set up a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com - this will give you an insight into what is happening with the signal at the other side of the Hub, it will take a few hours to get any kind of trend showing although you should post the link straight away.

Please post a 'Live Link' to your BQM on here straight away.

Instructions for posting BQM Live Link

Under your BQM graph are two links in red.

Click the lower link (Share Live Graph) then click generate.

Copy the text in the Direct Link box, beware, there may be more text than you can see.

On here click the Link icon (2 links chain to the left of the camera icon)

In the URL box paste the link you copied and in the ‘text to display’ box write My BQM then click OK - you can post the link straight away.

Re: AL5: from bad to worse

Can you please

Type 192.168.0.1 (192.168.100.1 in Modem mode) into your browser URL bar and press enter.

Hub 2 & 3 When the page appears DO NOT LOG IN but click ‘Check Router Status’.

Hub 4 When the page appears LOG IN then Advanced Settings > Tools > Network Status.

Copy and paste the contents of the Downstream, Upstream, Configuration and Network Log tabs onto here, if you get a yellow / straw box warning click the Post button again.

Use one post for each tab if you wish.

Please do not use screen shots.

A Guru will be along soon to decipher the info.

Re: AL5: from bad to worse

If AL5 is your post code you are in the same area as me and likely experiencing the same congestion issues I posted about. I'm still waiting on VM staff here to respond and organise an engineer visit (not that I expect much will change). Depending on your street - BT are rolling out FTTP (they installed it on the pole outside my house a week ago) so fingers crossed that becomes available soon.

Re: AL5: from bad to worse

I have posted all these info countless times, and never achieved anything, so I am not wasting more time.

Here is the last time I posted (just a few days ago) with no feedback, from any VM representative.

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Speed/Lockdown-N-3-gt-Upload-Speed-lt-1MB/m-p/4557333

About BT: called and booked, but I have 2 more months of hell with VM. Whole town must be moving there.

If it's a congestion/over utilisation problem then there's not much point in sending an engineer as there's nothing he can do until VM expand their network capacity.

Re: AL5: from bad to worse

If you can't be 4rs3d supplying the requested information I can't be bothered looking for it.

Your problem.

Bye.

Re: AL5: from bad to worse

It is unbelievable that is this information is so important, VM should have added a simple button "Download Info" to the router so one can post it quickly on the forum.

And when you click 100s times to do it, you keep getting the "fix your message". This whole infrastructure is simply not fit for purpose and the owners have no interest in improving it.

Don't know if other companies are any better, but it is hard to do worse than this.

The BQM from your previous post shows obvious over utilisation so in fairness there is nothing that can be done until VM expand that part of their network to accommodate all the connections. You can tell this to VM and see if they have a fix date but to be honest I'd take that with a pinch of salt as they will probably keep moving the date forward and never get anything done.
