600mbs Oomph speeds around 100mb at best most of the time

I was on 300mbs for years and it never dropped, always had the max speeds.

I have been on 600mbs a while and noticed on Sunday evenings my speeds used to dip, now Im seeing my speeds dip constantly to under 100mbs. In the mornings I can get the maximum but service has been terrible for a week or so now.

Right now its about 85-150mbs

Im dreading having to call support as every single time I ring them its an excruciating process. I have worked in IT for a long time and have horrible memories of having to explain to an overseas call centre support agent that Ive tested everything internally for an hour whilst they ask me what software I having installed.

Re: 600mbs Oomph speeds around 100mb at best most of the time

Some unwelcome post-RS (uncorrectable) errors, and also some unwelcome events in the network log.

Can you post the upstream data, and also setup a Broadband Quality Monitor at ThinkBroadband?  Takes 24 hours to get a useful result, but if you post a link to a shared, live graph then that will keep updating so you can post it immediately.

Re: 600mbs Oomph speeds around 100mb at best most of the time

Will do, restarted router this morning and tested and getting over full speed again. There may well be an error on the line or something but it only really affects it in the evening and is only the download speed. Latency etc is fine, we dont actually experience any real life issues and we have 4 PCs and the normal tablets and phones and play games etc with low pings. Its just Im not getting the speeds Im paying for so it needs sorting.

Re: 600mbs Oomph speeds around 100mb at best most of the time

Reason for asking for the upstream is that the hub uses the upstream to stay synchronised with VM's network gear.  Because of the way cable technology works, you can sometimes see no problem on the upstream speeds, but the upstream quality is poor, and that impacts downstream, and that's what I think is happening here.  Your upstream power levels are all maxed out at 51 dBmV, and that implies a signal to noise ratio fault on the upstream.  Some of the time the hub will probably work OK, but it won't take much to tip it over.

I've marked your post for forum staff to advise, and they'll book a technician visit if they think that is necessary.

Re: 600mbs Oomph speeds around 100mb at best most of the time

Good morning @jammanuk2010

Welcome back to the forums and thank you once again for your post.

I am sorry to see that you have had some issues with your broadband.

I have taken a look over the account and the network,  It dose seem as though there is a utilisation issue I have raised this with our networking team for them to investigate further.

Kind regards,

Zak_M

Re: 600mbs Oomph speeds around 100mb at best most of the time

If there is a utilisation issue thats concerning as it doesnt sound like something you will fix easily.

If thats the case my billing would need reviewing, Im not paying 600 oomph costs if you cant guarantee speeds.

This is my speed now, on a monday morning when utilisation should be low :

However a google speed test cameback at 529mbs

Thank you for coming back to me.

I can't review your billing from here unfortunately, you would need to call the retentions team regarding this.

Kind regards,

Zak_M

Re: 600mbs Oomph speeds around 100mb at best most of the time

Well you will need to advise whether you can provide the speeds you guarantee first. I was told there was a guaranteed amount I would receive, which was in excess of 400mb.

I need to know if thats achievable in my area before I waste hours on the phone to them.
