5ghz Vs 2.4ghz speed difference

Hello.

Just a quick question:

Superhub 3

Upgraded to the 200 mb broadband and using the 5ghz the speed indeed is fantastic.... hitting 200 no problems.

However some of my devices can only use the 2.4ghz service.....the maximum they hit is 30 mb.....I even experimented on devices that can use both ghz's and the difference was huge between the two.

Have tweaked all channel settings but no difference.

So is it the norm that 2.4ghz is about a 1/6th speed of the 5ghz?

Thanks

Re: 5ghz Vs 2.4ghz speed difference

2.4Ghz will always be much slower. The band is very congested and also shared with Bluetooth and other non-WiFi devices which cause interference. For the best speeds stick to 5Ghz on devices that support it.

Re: 5ghz Vs 2.4ghz speed difference

Thanks.

So essentially there is no way of improving the 2.4ghz speed?

Re: 5ghz Vs 2.4ghz speed difference

You need to do a wifi analysis of your environment.  Use inSSIDer or an app from the Play Store.  You may find your 2.4Ghz space is crowded and if so, there is no fix.  Any other 2.4Ghz signals will share the air time, and this will reduce the speed of all devices.
