5.75 Mbps DOWNLOAD speeds in Bristol BS31

Hi

I have been a virgin media customer for over 15 years and I have never known my internet to be so slow and unreliable as it is today. I am paying for 200+Mbps and I am getting just over 5Mbps.

I have done all the usual reboots, cable removal etc. and it is no better.

This is a wired connection direct to Hub of 1 metre as computer sits right next to the hub.

Re: 5.75 Mbps DOWNLOAD speeds in Bristol BS31

You have issues on the downstream channels (1-4) - far too many RS errors (particularly postRS ones) and low SNR's - all suggests you are having noise ingress somewhere.

YOu need VM input to track this down. They may pick it up here but it seems to be taking a day or two - or try calling it in - they are still picking up and arranging tech visits.

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired 2 WiFi,) SH2 in modem mode with Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's. On VIVID200, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

Re: 5.75 Mbps DOWNLOAD speeds in Bristol BS31

Thank you John for you reply.

Hopefully VM will get to me soon.

I have getting pretty fed up with the service now. I have noticed recently that my telephone (VM Landline) is really crackling. I hardly ever use it so no idea when this started. Could the two be related.

Re: 5.75 Mbps DOWNLOAD speeds in Bristol BS31

If the phone uses the Hub to connect it probably is - if its an old set up on the old telephone lines from a telegraph pole (like mine 🙂 ) it wont be directly related.
