3 mbs download and upload on M100 Fibre Broadband

We are paying for M100 but the speeds are very poor, at 3mbs download and upload speeds, resulting in timing out accessing a bank account, or government websites. This was organised by my late father. I need a faster connection, as I work from home.

Surely the speeds should be higher? Or are there other limiting factors?

TIA

Re: 3 mbs download and upload on M100 Fibre Broadband

Do I read that correctly, that some of your devices connect to the VM wifi at full speed, and other don't?  If so, what's the problem device?

Re: 3 mbs download and upload on M100 Fibre Broadband

Hi @peterhock,

Welcome back to our Community Forum! Glad to see you posting again.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing some issues with your speed and to see that this is only impacting you on your laptop.

Would you be able to run a wired connection speed test on your laptop to see if you're able to receive correct speeds with the Ethernet connection?

Please keep us updated on how you get on and what speeds you're receiving.

Thanks,

Paulina_Z

Re: 3 mbs download and upload on M100 Fibre Broadband

Hi - sorry for delay -  had to wait for delivery of an ethernet adapter as no ethernet slot on laptop..

OK with direct connection vi ethernet into router, speed shows 4.58 (3.61) download and 4..53 ( upload 3.38) , 253.2 latency. The figures in brackets are second test with different test website.

Tried again, now 4.51 |Download and 2.97 upload

Test is with wifi disconnected and just the wired connection.

Re: 3 mbs download and upload on M100 Fibre Broadband

What laptop is it exactly on what OS? Have you tried changing to a new Cat6 ethernet cable?

Also what wifi card is in it ? Have you tried a 2.4/5 GHz wifi dongle as well?

Re: 3 mbs download and upload on M100 Fibre Broadband

Hi @peterhock,

Thank you for getting back to us with an update.

Is it possible to run a wired speed test on a different device at all to see if it's a device specific issue, or is that the only device that you're able to run a wired connection on?

Thanks,

Re: 3 mbs download and upload on M100 Fibre Broadband

Resurrected my old Windows 7 laptop that I can get to work only in Safe mode. Broadband speed tests are very much faster with old laptop, up to 65 mbs, but with upload speeds not much changed.

New laptop is dual core Lenovo running Ubuntu 20.04.

There are many more config statements but would run into several pages.

Will get a type6 ethernet cable tomorrow and retry wired speeds and advise.
