200mb slow speed.

Hi all.

I've had a few speed issues for the last few weeks.  I rang VM and they sent me a new router but the speeds are still really slow.

I should and used to get 200mb but now get 100 if I'm lucky (it's normally 40-70mb)  most times of the day.

My area was oversubscribed in 2017 for most of 2017 and some of 2018.  This was fixed some time ago tho.  Can it happen again? and so quickly?.

anyway I'll paste some things.

Edit. Forgot to mention this is a wired connection on cat 6 cable into a gigabit nic.  I do have the router in modem mode normally but tested it in router mode aswell with the same results. thanks.

Re: 200mb slow speed.

Do you really only have 2 upstream channels? Should be 4. The 2 power levels are quite low too - albeit in "spec".

Re: 200mb slow speed.

Can you try a reset and see if they reappear !

Note that a pinhole reset on a Hub3 can be a bit problematic - so do it EXACTLY this way (not as the VM website says!).

Firstly, make sure the Hub's sticker/card with the two passwords on it is still there and legible or you will be stuffed ! If its not – DON’T DO IT !

With the Hub switched "on", disconnect any ethernet connections and then push in the “reset pin” with the end of a paperclip/thin nail or similar (bigger items like ball point pen ends may not press it in far enough) until you feel it at the “stop point” and hold it there firmly for a "timed" minimum of 60 seconds do NOT restart the Hub after that. Leave it 10' or so to stabilise and then your passwords/passphrase for both the Hub settings and the Wifi networks will revert to the two printed on the Hub sticker on its base/side/card. Make sure you use the wifi one for devices connecting to the wifi and the settings/admin one to access the Hub (it is a six digit numeric one).

Re: 200mb slow speed.

Thanks for the replies, very much appreciated.

I’ve done lots of resets as you described, over the last few weeks.

Old router would always just have the 2 channels just like the new one.  I’m pretty sure It’s only ever been 2 channels as long as I can remember.

Re: 200mb slow speed.

You do need VM input to comment on why you only have 2 up channels - it's wrong.

They should pick this up here in a few days but sometimes posts get overlooked so its always worth calling in as well. The UK call center is still picking up although patience will be required (!) - tray at 08.00 as that seems the best time.

Re: 200mb slow speed.

Hi TDW,

Thanks for your posts.

I'm sorry that you're not getting the speeds we'd expect on a wired connection.

I've had a look at the backend of your services again and I'm not able to see anything that would be causing any speed issues.

In regards to only having 2 upstream channels, this wouldn't necessarily cause a problem. Customers used to have 2 upstream channels only, so it sounds like the cabinet hasn't been upgraded to have 4 yet.

As we've done all the necessary checks from our end and you're still not getting the speeds we'd like, I'd like to book a technician visit for you.

Can you pop me a private message with your account number and name?

I'll get a visit arranged.

Thanks

Melissa
