200MB gradually drops to 15mb over an hour period

 Hi

I have been having a nightmare most day just trying to stream Netflix.

I started to do a little bit of investigation and found out that my download speed reduces over a period of 1 hour and can be under 20mb. To cure this i simply reboot the Hub 3 run a speed test and im back upto around the 200mb mark again according to Ookla. Then if i test multiple times over an hour it gets slower every time until it almost grinds to a halt.

Ive endured these slow speeds for over a month and until i started the test didn't realize how bad it was. All my equipment apart from phones connect via cat6 to a router and then the hub. But ive tried direectly to the hub as well.

Here is what ive tried to do to resolve it.

Removed router and connected directly to the hub after a full reset symptoms remain the same connection gradually reduces in speed over time.

New network card in PC and even swapped the PC out for another no change. At this point the only thing connected to the hub was the single PC no change.

I seem to of eliminated any of my personal kit been an issue and to me it all points to my Hub 3 having a problem. I dont have the heart to go through ringing Virgin trying to explain all this so can somebody help me please ?

Been a Virgin customer 25 years seldom ask for any support but at almost £40 for broadband only that isnt working as it should im starting to think the loyalty only goes one way.

Sounds like your hub is losing synchronisation with VM's network gear probably due to noise issues.  When you restart the hub, it renegotiates all 28 channels from scratch, and so works OK, until the noise causes it to lose one or more channels.

Connect to the hub by clicking on this link http://192.168.0.1/  That should pull up the log in page for the hub.  But don't log in, just click on the link "Check router status"  That'll bring up a window with five tabs.  All we need is the contents of the three titled Downstream, Upstream, Network log, and if you can post that as text not screenshots it will help.

Open the Downstream tab.  Select all the text (Ctrl-A if using a keyboard), copy it (Ctrl-C), then paste it (Ctrl-V) into a reply here.  Post that, do the same for the Upstream and Network log.  You'll get an error message when you post the Network log, just click on "post" a second time.

Re: 200MB gradually drops to 15mb over an hour period

Can you set up a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com - this will give you an insight into what is happening with the signal at the other side of the Hub, it will take a few hours to get any kind of trend showing although you should post the link straight away.

Post a 'Live Link' to your BQM on here.

Instructions for posting BQM Link

Under your BQM graph are two links in red.

Click the lower link (Share Live Graph) then click generate.

Copy the text in the Direct Link box, beware, there may be more text than you can see.

On here click the Link icon (2 links chain to the left of the camera icon)

In the URL box paste the link you copied and in the ‘text to display’ box write My BQM then click OK - you can post the link straight away.

Re: 200MB gradually drops to 15mb over an hour period

The network log is full of frequent critical errors, and the downstream power looks as though it is just falling into problem territory.  Whether that's enough to cause the slowdown I don't know, but hopefully the forum staff can comment when they pick up your post.
