1GB package but poor Ethernet speeds

Hi,

I have recently taken out the 1GB package with the SuperHub 5 and I am connected via ethernet, the 2,5Gb port to my PC which also has 2.5Gb Ethernet port. The speed tests that I am seeing are far worse connected directly to the superhub than across my wifi. Both of these tests have been conducted on the same device and also the Ethernet cable used is the one supplied with the SuperHub 5

I know that this is not an issue with my device as at my previous property I was on VM500 and was receiving consistent speeds higher than this on a older virgin media hub. I have also tried a different CAT6 cable, different ports on the router and rebooting the router and still have the issue.

Hi Jue_92, I was having the same problems, I used to use Cat6 ethernet cables.

Cat 8 cables can support transmission speeds of up to 40Gbps and frequencies of up to 2GHz, whereas Cat 6 cables can only support speeds of up to 10Gbps and frequencies of up to 500MHz.

So I bought some new Cat 8 cables and plugged into the 2.5ghz port on the Hub5 and got instant speed boost because the cat 6 can only support upto 500mhz as you can see from the table below.1000004118.jpg

I suggest you try to get some Cat 8 ethernet cables and let us know how you get on

Any good shielded CAT6 cable will support 10Gb at 55 meters

Yes it will support 10gb but only at a 500mhz bandwidth, thats why I stated Cat 8 at that supports the 2000mhz Bandwith from the 2.5ghz port on the Hub 5, which will give faster speeds

Sorry Cat 6 will support 1000mbps @ 550mhz the Cat6A is 10gb but still only at 550mhz bandwith

Cabling bandwidth is not the same as the bandwidth Frequency data is being transmitted at the idea is you have a cable that can handle bandwidth Frequency that a NIC runs at higher spec cable is only needed for a long cable.
