was this a scam

A few moments ago i got a call saying virgin media,the number 01889464226 retrieved from 1471 . they were on about my router i have no problem with router,i never no when to believe these calls was this a scam again.

There is a very simple answer to this. VM will never phone you about a supposed issue with your router. So the call was the usual spam and scam attempt. OK?

Unfortunately this is a common scam.  If it's from an obscure number the chances are 100% likely that it is indeed a scam.  Stay vigilant as the chances are you'll get more calls like this pretending to be from Amazon etc (as did I this afternoon).

Thanks,my main reason at the time my broadband had been down ,now i no it was a scam ive had another three calls today george from virgin then paul calling from virgin,such pathetic people

Yeah... its like 1/2 the Beatles work for them.  Some of the scams are so poor (e.g. Shirley from ISP/Your router has been compromised by many countries) they're not worth bothering with; the more advanced ones will try to bamboozle you with procedures that seem technically complicated but actually do nothing to solve your problem. If you think it's a scam, just hang up; its not rude to do so.   Under no circumstances give them permission to access your computer/bank account.
