Did the caller say what the call was about and what they wanted? Calls claiming to be from VM and advising of technical problems with your VM connection ('your router has been hacked ...'; 'your broadband is running slowly ...' etc. etc.) are always scam calls.
You are wise to be cautious. The possibility of a fake caller ID means the calls might be from VM or might not.
If you do not want to receive such calls, sign in to 'My Virgin Media' and opt out of marketing.
If your phone has a blocking feature, block the unwanted number. If not, simply do not answer calls from the number in question.
If you do need to speak to VM for any reason, make an outbound call yourself to one of the recognised VM customer numbers.
